What you Need to Know

OL@-OR@ is a Healthier Lives He Oranga Hauora National Science Challenge (Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment funded) project to support and maintain a culturally tailored, personalised mobile-phone delivered health app. Designed in partnership with our Māori and Pasifika communities to help reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, and diabetes, this app has been designed for New Zealand users only.

OL@-OR@ offers support for your health and well-being by supporting you to set health and wellbeing goals and make small steps to reach those goals. OL@-OR@ provides you with information about food, physical activity, local activities, and health services and sends you regular reminders and motivational messages to help you use the app and reach your goals.

OL@-OR@ does not provide medical advice. The content and information should not be used for any medical or diagnostic purpose or relied upon as a substitute for advice from a medical professional, nutritional or other health professional.

You should consult your doctor or other qualified health professional if you have questions or concerns about your or your whanau health.

If you need urgent help, please call 111 or present to your local Emergency Department. Otherwise ask your GP to refer you to see your medical specialist.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy sets out how we use and protect your personal information when you access and use the OL@-OR@ app. Read it carefully.

We are committed to:

  • protecting the privacy of your personal information,
  • meeting our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 and any other applicable privacy legislation.
  • ensuring that we obtain your explicit consent within the app before collecting and using your personal information.

We may change this Privacy Policy at any time, by updating it within the app. This Privacy Policy was last updated in September 2023.

Definitions used in this Privacy Policy

In this Privacy Policy:

“OL@-OR@” means the OL@-OR@ mobile phone application and any supporting “OL@- OR@” websites.

“Personal information” has the meaning in the Privacy Act 2020, and generally means information about an identifiable individual.

“Terms and Conditions” means the OL@-OR@ terms and conditions available here.

“UniServices” means our wholly-owned subsidiary, Auckland UniServices Limited.

“University” or “we” means the University of Auckland.

Collection of Personal Information and Purposes of Use

We collect the following information when you register with the app and provide this information directly to us:

  • your username so that we can provide you with the OL@-OR@ app and communicate messages via the app, to you,
  • how you found the app, to enable us to better target our promotion of the app,
  • demographic information (including age bracket, gender, ethnicity) for the purposes of understanding our user base and reporting to our funder on our user base.

We also collect information about how you use the app through the use of cookies using Google Analytics (e.g., pages regularly visited) to enable us to improve OL@-OR@. Further information on our use of cookies is set out below.

We also use all of the above information to operate, improve and optimise OL@-OR@ and/or as otherwise permitted at law.

Minimal data that you choose to provide within the app will also be stored locally on your mobile phone for as long as you choose to use the app, to track your own results. This information is not collected by us, and will not be shared with third parties.

User Consent within the App

To enhance transparency and ensure that we have your explicit consent, we will present a confirmation message within the OL@-OR@ app. This message will seek your consent for the collection and use of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. By confirming, you agree to the terms set out in this policy. If you do not agree, you may choose not to use the OL@-OR@ app.

Calendar Data

We collect calendar data to add events to your calendar from the OL@-OR@ app. By using the app, you consent to this data access for the purpose of adding events to your calendar.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your browser or device by a website or app.

 

Cookies cannot damage files, nor can they read information from the hard drive of a computer.

We use Google Analytics cookies to help remember users and monitor how they interact with OL@-OR@. For example, we use cookies to authenticate users, remember user preferences, and determine app and website traffic and trends. Generally, that information is used to help us improve and personalise your online experiences.

How Google uses cookies, and information collected by Google Analytics is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.

You can disable the acceptance of cookies by adjusting the settings in your web browser, although this may restrict your ability to access some web pages.

Sharing of Personal Information

We require any third party with whom we share information to provide the same level of protection of your data as set out in this Privacy Policy and as required by this digital media store.

We share de-identified data, in the form of new users and ethnicities of users, with the project funder to ensure that the programme is reaching the intended audience and outreach.

We share your personal information with UniServices, as described further below.

Rights of Access

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct any personal information that we hold about you, by contacting us.

Storage and Security

We will take reasonable steps to ensure the security and confidentiality of personal information that we collect. We work closely with UniServices to provide OL@-OR@, including to store personal information and ensure the proper operation of OL@-OR@.

We do not use overseas data storage providers. Your data is stored on servers managed by the University of Auckland.

Retention/Deletion of your information

We retain your information for only as long as it is needed to meet the purposes above, or for as long as it is required by law.

You are able to delete the app and all its data, whenever you choose.
